Volvo EV Lineup - Motorcars Volvo

A major part of Volvo's push to be as environmentally sustainable as possible has been a switch to more plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles in the lineup. While every Volvo model has at least a mild hybrid system, these are the vehicles that take electrification much further. In addition to the environmental advantages of these models, they also offer a much higher level of performance, including the quickest 0-60 times ever in Volvo history. It's an exciting new chapter for Volvo.

  Key Features

  • Starting at $40,245 MSRP*
  • Standard drivetrain - rear-wheel drive pure electric single-motor producing 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque
  • Range - Up to 261 miles
  • Optional drivetrain - all-wheel drive pure electric twin-motor producing 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque
  • Seats - 5
  • Cargo capacity - 27.8 cubic feet / 0.2 cubic feet (front)

The EX30 is a lot of things, an eco-friendly luxury car, a small SUV that's perfect for negotiating city streets, and the quickest 0-60 road-going vehicle in Volvo history. That kind of versatility is rare, and that specific combination of features is previously unheard of. But the EX30 is made to challenge expectations, as is the whole Volvo electric lineup, and the EX30 accomplishes this with ease. The battery pack has a 69 kWh capacity, and can charge from 10 to 80 percent on a DC fast charger in just 28 minutes, or a full 0 to 100 percent on a home Level 2 charger in just 8 hours. To go with the short charging times, the EX30 has a range of 261 miles.

For having such a small footprint, the EX30 has a spacious interior, utilizing Scandinavian design efficiency to maximize space. While you might expect a choice of a couple of upholstery color options, Volvo goes much further, with a choice of four themes, which transform the whole cabin. And for your listening pleasure, there is an available Harmon Kardon sound system with a surprisingly powerful 1,040-watt amplifier. Not the sort of thing you'll have seen before in a city-sized vehicle, but that's just one more way the EX30 exceeds expectations.

  Key Features

  • Starting at $81,290 MSRP*
  • Standard drivetrain - all-wheel drive pure electric twin-motor producing 402 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque
  • Range - Up to 310 miles
  • Optional drivetrain - all-wheel drive pure electric twin-motor producing 510 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque
  • Seats - 7
  • Cargo capacity - 67.6 cubic feet / 1.6 cubic feet (front)

The EX90 is the new flagship for the soon-to-be all-electric lineup. A new three-row crossover that builds on everything that made the XC90 such an unprecedented success. It does this in several areas, but one of the first you're likely to notice is power, with even the base drivetrain offering 402 horsepower, and a performance drivetrain on the options list that offers 510 horsepower. Both come with all-wheel drive as standard, and a 111 kWh battery pack that allows for up to 310 miles of range. DC fast charging will get you to 80 percent in just 30 minutes, and on a home Level 2 charger you can get from 0 to 100 percent in just 10 hours, both above-average times for a vehicle with a battery this size.

Inside, you'll find all of the comfort and luxury that you've come to expect from Volvo, but with an updated design that emphasizes a high-tech and sophisticated aesthetic. High-quality materials, including genuine wood and wool, are used to give even the large interior space of the EX90 a cozy feel. A highly sophisticated Bowers and Wilkins stereo system was designed for the EX90, and it even includes headrest speakers. And since this is a Volvo, you can take comfort in the fact that Volvo has gone above and beyond with safety.

2026 Volvo EX40

  Key Features

  • Starting at $56,445 MSRP*
  • Standard drivetrain - rear-wheel drive pure electric single-motor producing 248 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque
  • Range - Up to 296 miles
  • Optional drivetrain - all-wheel drive pure electric twin-motor producing 402 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque
  • Seats - 5
  • Cargo capacity - 57.5 cubic feet / 1.1 cubic feet (front)

The EX40 might look a bit familiar, and there is a very good reason for that. It's based on the gasoline-powered XC40, but has a different name in order to keep it consistent with Volvo's EV naming convention. The base drivetrain offers nearly identical horsepower to the mild hybrid counterpart, but noticeably more torque, a trademark advantage of an EV. And selecting the twin-motor setup gives you a massive power advantage. Range is excellent, nearly the same as the large EX90, but the EX40 being much smaller means that it can achieve this with a smaller battery that requires only 8 hours of Level 2 charging for a 0 to 100 percent charge.

A different front fascia tells you that you're looking at the all-electric EX40, but there is otherwise very little to distinguish it from the standard XC40. That's a major selling point, since the XC40 has been a popular model since its introduction.

2026 Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid

  Key Features

  • Starting at $62,445 MSRP*
  • Standard drivetrain - all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid drivetrain producing 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque
  • All-electric range - Up to 35 miles
  • Towing capacity - 3,500 pounds
  • Seats - 5
  • Cargo capacity - 63.3 cubic feet

The XC60 is Volvo's best-selling model worldwide, and it's easy to see why. Versatile, comfortable, and available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the XC60 has a wide and undeniable appeal. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain produces tremendous power, far more than the standard mild hybrid drivetrain, and it allows the XC60 to hit 60 mph in a startlingly quick 4.5 seconds. All of that performance also comes with a 63 MPGe combined fuel economy rating, meaning that you don't have to choose between performance and efficiency. And with a 35-mile all-electric range, most people won't need to use any gasoline at all most days.

The design of the XC60 draws from Scandanavian design norms that emphasize quality materials over flashy gimmicks. That means options like Tailored Wool Blend upholstery and interior trim made from driftwood. There is even an available gear shift level that's made of genuine Orrefors crystal, manufactured exclusively for Volvo. The available Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system provides an incredible listening experience as well, further enhancing the luxury experience of the XC60.

  Key Features

  • Starting at $77,495 MSRP*
  • Standard drivetrain - all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid drivetrain producing 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque
  • All-electric range - Up to 32 miles
  • Towing capacity - 5,000 pounds
  • Seats - 7
  • Cargo capacity - 85.7 cubic feet

The XC90 is the only three-row vehicle in the Volvo lineup, and given what an incredible vehicle it is, there really isn't any need for another. As Volvo's flagship SUV model, the XC90 is where to look to see where the whole Volvo lineup is heading. The styling is sophisticated, both inside and out, understated while still communicating a luxury aesthetic. High-quality materials and advanced technology make for an incredibly comfortable ride and interior. A long list of standard equipment gives the XC90 an advantage over the competition, not that there is much competition that also offers a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Volvo's plug-in hybrid drivetrain makes the XC90 quick and efficient. Even being bigger than the other vehicles that offer the T8 plug-in hybrid drivetrain as an option, the XC90 can still hit 60 mph in just 5 seconds and deliver a 58 MPGe combined rating. There is also plenty of all-electric range, enough to keep you from having to stop at the gas station for a long time.
