About the Volvo EX30
Part of the first wave of the Volvo all-electric lineup, the EX30 is a small SUV made for city dwellers, a group that has so far been underserved by the EV market. Many of the exciting features and cutting-edge technology from the flagship EX90 can also be found in the EX30, including the very latest in safety and driver's aid technology. This is a Volvo after all. The advanced drivetrain comes with standard all-wheel drive and tremendous power, which goes nicely with the class-leading range. Inside, you'll find an evolved form of Volvo Scandinavian design ethos which incorporates new environmentally conscious materials and a sense of serene luxury. The Volvo EX30 offers a lot in a small package, something other manufacturers don't seem to have figured out yet. That package can even include a healthy dose of off-road prowess, thanks to an available Cross Country variant.
What the Critics Say
"The feel in the EX30 is all Volvo: Modern, thoughtful and solidly built. The drive is not a disappointment: powerful and responsive. And the price, well, that's a delightful surprise. When we start to see the Volvo EX30 on the street this summer, expect a lot of discussion around rethinking the viability of electric cars." - Forbes
"Guiding the EX30 through the crowded streets of Barcelona is a joy, as its 104.3-inch wheelbase and 166.7-inch overall length are tailor-made for dicing it up with the city cars and scooters that populate most of the Comital City's traffic." - Car & Driver
What's New for 2026
Two big changes for the EX30 in 2026. The first is a single motor drivetrain that comes with a noticeably lower starting price and a slightly longer range. The second addition is a new Cross Country variant, with a raised ride height, all-terrain wheels and tires, and underbody protection for light off-roading.
Volvo EX30 Features
Electric Performance
The EX30 comes with an advanced electric drivetrain that is available in two configurations. The Single Motor Extended Range drivetrain is rear-wheel drive and produces a potent 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. The Twin Motor Performance drivetrain produces 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are practically unheard of in the world of subcompacts, and it gives the EX30 a 0-60 time of just 3.4 seconds, the quickest of any Volvo model ever. What makes all of this especially remarkable is that Volvo doesn't ask you to sacrifice range for all that power, as Single Motor gets 261 miles of range, and the Twin Motor gets 253 miles. Another impressive feature is the 2,000-pound towing capacity for both configurations, a number that quite a few larger competitors can't even match. This is all possible because of the advanced drivetrain and battery architecture found in the EX30. Another benefit of this is the DC fast charging time of just 28 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent charge.
Versatile Interior
The interior of the EX30 will look familiar to those who have been in any recent Volvo models, but at the same time, the Scandinavian minimalism that informs the Volvo design language has evolved for the new Volvo electric models. So you'll find a familiar dash layout, with a vertical infotainment touchscreen flanked by air vents, but the screen is now bigger and the glovebox has been moved to a central location right under it. The seats are as comfortable as you've come to expect from Volvo but there are new upholstery options including wool and soft-touch recycled textiles. Four different interior themes are offered, with different materials being used for each, including things like flax and denim. The infotainment system features a built-in Google operating system that includes Google Maps and Google's hands-free voice assistant. The standard stereo, a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, which features 9 speakers and a massive 1,040-watt output, far exceeds expectations, and will please any audiophile.
Advanced Safety
A Volvo isn't really a Volvo if it isn't also incredibly safe and the EX30 does an excellent job of living up to the name. The EX30 is certainly a segment leader with a level of safety tech that you would be much more likely to find on a vehicle costing twice as much. This includes a 360° camera, self-parking, and a system for detecting when the driver is drowsy or distracted. There is a door opening alert so when you park on the street and open your door, you don't accidentally have it taken off by a passing van or cyclist. Pilot Assist will change lanes for you or help you maintain a more comfortable distance when there's a truck beside you. And all of this is of course helped by the safety measures that Volvo has incorporated into their vehicle designs for decades.
