What's New For 2025
The EX40 is technically a new nameplate for Volvo, but it isn't really a new vehicle. Last year, the vehicle now known as the EX40 was called the XC40 Recharge, and with the exception of nomenclature, it carries over essentially unchanged. There's one other name change to go with the main one, the Ultimate trim is now called Ultra, also a change in name only.

Thanks to its battery-electric foundation, the EX40 powertrain delivers a combined system output of either 248 or 402 horsepower and superb handling thanks to a cleverly positioned 79 kWh lithium-ion high-voltage located low within the chassis. An available permanent all-wheel drive system helps deliver outstanding stability and confidence in slippery conditions.
Drivers can take advantage of one of several charging solutions to help make the transition to all-electric travel virtually effortless. An onboard 11 kWh charger can be used at a conventional household outlet. At your home or office, the EX40 offers Level 2 charging to help top off the battery when not in use. There's also DC Fast Charging at up to 150 kWh to help you recharge the battery from 0 to 80% in as little as 28 minutes.

Integration and connectivity are two additional focal points that Volvo engineers have infused into the dynamic EX40.
