About the Volvo EX90

The EX90 is the first Volvo built from the ground up to house an electric drivetrain, and it therefore fittingly serves as the flagship Volvo EV. The EX90 is one of the only three-row electric SUVs available from any manufacturer, but with an EV this advanced, it's not surprising that other brands are reluctant to try to compete. The EX90 comes with seating for up to 7, and tons of cargo space, but still packs enough power to make driving exciting. While the EX90 might not be mechanically related to the gasoline-powered XC90, it serves the same purpose, just in EV form, and that's very good news.
What the Critics Say
The suspension is supple and provides good ride quality, and the steering is well-weighted. The air suspension is height-adjustable and it combines with adaptive dampers to smooth out the road nicely. The cabin also remains remarkably quiet, even by the standards of an electric vehicle. - Car & Driver
In the Scandinavian tradition, the EX90 spoils occupants without being flashy. You don't buy it to inform your neighbors and coworkers that you've arrived. You buy it to tickle your eardrums with the $3,200 25-speaker Dolby Atmos-enabled Bowers & Wilkens audio system or to treat your lower back to those therapeutic seats. The only hint of ritzy opulence comes from the warm, white glow that shines through the sustainably harvested wood trim at night, a tasteful counterpoint to the ribbons of carnival lights used by the luxury-car establishment. - Motor Trend
What's New For 2026
There have been several big changes already for the EX90. Onboard computer systems have been reworked to be quicker and offer new features like a slippery road warning system and an unresponsive driver assist. The electrochromic glass roof that used to be optional is now standard as well. But the big news is the completely reworked drivetrain. The new 800-volt architecture makes for quicker DC fast charging, and the motors produce more horsepower, a lot more. With this new power, Volvo has introduced a new Single Motor drivetrain, which is priced lower than the two existing configurations but is still more powerful than any gasoline engine made by Volvo.
Volvo EX90 Features

Serious Performance
The EX90 easily sets itself apart from its competitors by offering the kind of performance that you just won't find elsewhere in the segment. The standard drivetrain uses a single motor that powers the rear wheels. This produces 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, which is more than any Volvo vehicle that doesn't plug in. But if you're looking for more, the all-wheel drive Twin Motor drivetrain bumps the total power up to 449 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque, enough for a 5.3-second 0-60 time. But if you want sportscar-like performance from your big, comfortable SUV, Volvo gives you that option with the Twin Motor Performance drivetrain. This produces 670 horsepower and 642 lb-ft of torque, rocketing you to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds.

An Even More Advanced EV
Built as Volvo's EV flagship, the EX90 is also a technology showcase that hints at the direction the brand is going. The EX90 introduces a new EV architecture for Volvo. Its sophisticated powertrain makes it possible for you to enjoy advanced charging capabilities, meaning you can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes with DC fast charging. Safety technology is also highly advanced, including features like lidar and interior occupant sensing. In fact, Volvo says this is "safer than any Volvo car to come before it," which is a very impressive thing coming from Volvo.

Luxury Experience
The interior of the EX90 is immediately recognizable as a Volvo interior, with the Scandinavian design sensibilities on full display. But it is also an evolution of those ideas, cutting down on clutter to better show off the premium materials and clean look of the vehicle. The vertical central touchscreen is a design feature that Volvo has been using for years, but the EX90 is one of the first models to get a size upgrade with a 14.5-inch screen. You can find sustainably-sourced wool for the upholstery in many Volvo models but the EX90 also offers Nordico, a soft leather substitute made in part from recycled plastic bottles. In total, 15 percent of the plastics used in the EX90 are recycled or from bio-based sources, with Volvo planning to increase that number to 25 percent in the coming years. Adding to the Scandinavian living room feel of the EX90's interior is the incredibly smooth ride that comes with air suspension which comes standard on the Ultra trim. And an incredible 14-speaker Bose stereo system is available standard, for an unparalleled listening experience.
