Representatives of Volvo Car Corporation visited the Swedish Parliament recently for a debate on self-driving cars. It was an example of collaboration between the public sector, industry, and academia that Volvo is calling "The Nordic Model."

"I think that the major barrier is of course technology, and reliability of the technology," said Hakan Samuelsson, President & CEO, Volvo Car Corporation. "It's also of course having the infrastructure and legal framework."

The Nordic Model of self-driving cars means automakers cannot build cars in a vacuum.
