In this battle of compact SUVs, the popular Volvo XC40 goes up against the Jeep Compass. Right from the start, we can see that the XC40 has a significant power advantage, and the list of advantages only grows from there. This includes a higher towing capacity, a practical benefit of the extra power. 

Comparing equivalent trim levels, the XC40 offers a standard Corner Traction Control system that helps to mitigate wheel spin in slippery conditions and while cornering.

Shifting our attention towards the interiors of both SUVs, the Volvo XC40 continues to offer a more premium experience. Standard features include an 8-speaker audio system with Automatic Level Adjustment (ALA), 4 USB ports, and built-in Google functionality, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store, with four years' worth of data included. The Compass offers less in all of these categories, especially when it comes to included data. The difference between four years of included data that includes the full Google suite of apps, and a three-month trial that doesn't even include navigation is pretty stark.

In keeping with Volvo tradition, safety remains an essential component of the XC40. The Jeep Compass can't even come close to matching the comprehensive list of safety features found on the XC40. These features include Rear Collision Prevention, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Rear Parking Assist. Finally, the basic warranty coverage included by Volvo far exceeds what you'll receive from Jeep.

Volvo and Jeep have both recently debuted all-new electric midsize SUVs, so these latest advanced models make for a great comparison. The Wagoneer S starts off a bit more expensive than the EX60, but the Ultra trim of the EX60 is almost exactly the same price when equipped with the optional P10 drivetrain. Horsepower output is nearly identical, and torque output is identical, with both models also coming with all-wheel drive. However, after that we start to see some important differences. The EX60 gets a bit more range and will charge quicker on a DC fast charger. And for all the similarities in the drivetrain, the EX60 will still tow quite a bit more than the Wagoneer S. The Wagoneer S uses a space/cost-saving strut front suspension setup that lacks the precision and control of the double wishbone setup in the EX60.

Both ride comfort and handling are enhanced by the adaptive suspension in the EX60, a feature not available for the Wagoneer S. Speaking of comfort, the Ultra trim of the EX60 comes with heated and ventilated front seats as well as heated back seats. The Wagoneer S has heated front seats, and ventilation is available as an extra-cost option, but heated back seats aren't available at all. On top of that, the seats in the EX60 come with Nappa leather upholstery, but leather isn't available at all for the Wagoneer S. While both vehicles come with premium stereo systems, you're definitely going to notice the difference between the 28 speakers in the EX60 and the 9 in the Wagoneer S. You can pay several thousand dollars extra to upgrade the stereo in the Wagoneer S, but it still only brings the total up to 19 speakers. Lastly, and this is a brand-wide point, Volvo offers a better warranty than Jeep.
